I know it has been a long time, but I need to explain something that happened to me on my last trip to Spain.
If you know me a bit, you know by now I often experience weird situations in airports. This story couldn’t be any different.
This Christmas was the first time in the past 3 years that I took a plane on my own. No puppy, no boyfriend, no special checking, just my suitcase and I on a plane. I was used to do the check-in at the airport because flying with pets requires a special procedure and I was so used to it that I just took my ID card and proceeded to do the same I was doing the past 3 years.
To my surprise, I went to the Frankfurt airport to find myself with the whole procedure automatized. A screen guiding me how to place the sticker in my suitcase, to print my own boarding card and to wish me a nice flight.
You might think I am exaggerating, but this is not the point. The point is, I entered the plane and I did not have to show my ID card in ANY of the steps I followed. The machine obviously couldn’t care less, the security check only cared for the liquids in the backpacks and the boarding employees just wanted to scan my boarding card so I found myself landing in Málaga not having to identify myself ANYWHERE.
Anybody knowing my name and knowing I was going to take a plane from Frankfurt to Málaga that day could have printed my boarding card and yes, if I arrive at the airport and my check-in has been done my someone else it would be easy to catch the person and allow me to fly, but that is not my point.
For 2 hours and 45 minutes that the plane took to arrive to Málaga I did not feel safe.
I approached an employee when I arrived to Málaga and explained my concern. The answer was simple and clear.
“Many passengers complained because we ask for the ID cards in European flights and you complaint for the opposite. We cannot make everybody happy. “
In a world where News spread like crazy and we can all see catastrophes flying do happen, I received heartless uncomfortable support.
Now that this is all out of my chest, I hope you had a great time during Christmas and I wish you all a Happy New Year!
